Bio

Jane Waugh is an American artist who credits her artistic career to her life-long exposure to art and architecture, deep faith and TOTAL lack of understanding. She grew up in a house filled with interesting and beautiful things, lived in London as a young adult, and later in life fell in love with New York City where she finds great inspiration.

Primarily a self-taught artist, Jane has had the benefit of learning under accomplished contemporary artists, having spent the first chapter of her adult life in connection and proximity to the University of Oregon, which has a piece of her work in its permanent collection. She has also shown work in Charlottesville, Virginia, having moved there after the death of her first husband. She has sold all over the country and has also had the pleasure of donating her work to many charitable auctions over the years: The University of Oregon Art Museum, American Red Cross, The Festival of Trees, The Relief Nursery, Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, Hosea Youth Services, The High Desert Museum, Community Kitchen, UNICEF, as well as several public and private schools.

In her most recent work, Jane infuses commentary into how we often look through screens at objects, yet don’t see them. The ever-present grids and patterns are direct connections to having been exposed daily to design in her youth. She employs them in her painting by juxtaposing them with objects as a symbol of conflict between what we desire to see, what we think we see, and what is actually present.

Jane currently splits her time between Florida and New York with her husband Seth Waugh, their five children and two dogs. She currently is accepting requests for commission work.
